Gas Guzzler: How to save money at the gas pump

  • There are a few obvious answers when it comes to saving money at the gas pump. The first is to shop around. Don’t buy gas at the nearest station just because it’s convenient and close.   • On that note, don’t wait until your empty light is flashing to buy gas. If you wait too long, you might end up having to get gas wherever is closest and spending more than you need to.
  • Check your air pressure frequently to ensure that you are getting the best gas mileage you can.

  • Turn off the engine. If you are waiting for someone or something and are idling your car, try turning it off to save the gas.
  • Don’t go to gas stations close to the freeway. They will typically have gas that is pricier.
  • Lastly choose the best route driving. Take the route with the fewest stop signs and traffic lights. The shortest route may not always be the best way to go.
