Learn from the past, and look ahead to the future

Hourglass looking to future

It’s a new year and new years call for new beginnings. I recently read this quote, “I learn from the past, dream about the future and look up.” If this isn’t good advice for a start, I don’t know what is. All that being said, it is much easier to talk about how to learn from the past and look ahead to the future then it is to actually do it. So here are some way to do just that.

Learn from the Past

It already happened and maybe you don’t want to talk about it, but the truth is that we should learn from our mistakes so they don’t happen again. If you want a better future, figure out what didn’t work the first time and fix it. Learning can come from a lot of things. Our best advice? Books. Go back to school and hit the books again. If going back and finishing your degree isn’t an option, learn on your own. There are hundreds of great books to better yourself or even teach you a new skill. This can improve your family, work life and overall future!

Look Ahead to the Future

No one knows what the future holds, but it is said that you hold your future. Set yourself up for success! Make a month plan, a year plan, and a 5 year plan. What do you want to accomplish? Where do you see yourself? Now is the time to forget the past and dream. Dream big! Set goals to reach those dreams. Tony Robbins said,”Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” If you want a better future than your past has been set goals.

Your destiny isn’t set in stone. If you don’t want your future to be the same as your past, you are the only one who can change that.
